江苏省常州市科学技术协会成立于1956年4月，是科学技术工作者的群众组织，是政府联系科技工作者的桥梁和纽带，是推动科学技术事业发展的重要力量。主要宗旨是团结和动员科学技术工作者以经济建设为中心，坚持科学技术是第一生产力的思想，实施科教兴市和可持续发展战略，促进科学技术的繁荣和发展，促进科学技术的普及和推广，促进科学技术人才的成长和提高，促进科学技术与经济的结合，为经济社会协调可持续发展服务，为提高全民科学素质服务，为广大科技工作者服务。
　　主要职能是开展学术交流，活跃学术思想，促进学科发展。积极开展民间国际科技交流活动，发展同国（境）外的科技团体和科技工作者的友好往来；弘扬科学精神，普及科学知识，传播科学思想和科学方法。捍卫科学尊严，开展青少年科技教育活动，开展继续教育和技术培训，促进公众科学文化素养的提高；开展科技咨询、技术服务，提出政策建议，推广先进技术，促进科技成果的转化。接受委托承担项目评估、成果鉴定、技术职务资格评定等任务；维护科技工作者的合法权益，反映科技工作者的意见和要求，建设科技工作者之家。
　　目前，常州市科协拥有60个市级学会、协会、研究会（1200多个团体单位，21300多名个人会员）、7个辖市（区）科协（59个街道乡镇科协）、45个市级企事业科协、5个院校科协、200多家农村专业技术协会、110多家科普教育基地。常州市科协已成为了跨地区、跨隶属关系、跨所有制的学科齐全、人才荟萃的科技工作者的人民团体。

　　Founded in April 1956, Jiangsu Changzhou Association for Science and Technology is a mass organization for scientific and technological personnel，which serves as a bridge and a link between the government and scientific and technological personnel as well as an important force to promote the development of scientific and technological undertakings. Its fundamental objective is to unite and motivate scientific and technological personnel to focus on the central task of economic construction, uphold the idea that science and technology constitute a primary productive force and implement the strategy of invigorating the city through science, technology and education and the strategy of sustainable development, so as to promote prosperity and development of science and technology, promote popularization and dissemination of science and technology, promote growth and upbringing of scientific and technological talents and promote integration of science and technology with economy, while serving the balanced and sustainable development of the economy and society, serving the promotion of science literacy for the whole nation and serving the mass of scientific and technological personnel.

　　Its main function is to conduct academic exchanges, liven up academic ideas and promote the development of various disciplines; to actively conduct non-governmental international scientific and technological exchanges and develop friendly interactions with foreign (overseas) scientific and technological organizations and personnel; to carry forward scientific spirit, popularize knowledge of science, promulgate scientific thinking and methods and defend the dignity of science; to conduct activities of science and technology education among the youth and teenagers, conduct activities of continuing education and technical training and promote science and cultural literacy for the general public; to provide scientific and technological consultation and technical services, provide policy advice, popularize advanced technology and facilitate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements; to take assignments for project evaluation, achievement appraisal and professional qualification evaluation; to protect the legitimate rights and interests of scientific and technological personnel and reflect their suggestions, comments and requests and construct home for scientific and technological personnel.

　　Changzhou Association for Science and Technology presently boasts of 60 societies (associations, research associations) at the municipal level (more than 1,200 organizational members and 21,300 individual members), 7 science and technology associations of cities (districts) under municipal jurisdiction (59 science and technology associations of sub-districts and townships), 45 science and technology associations of enterprises and institutions at the municipal level, 5 science and technology associations of universalities and colleges, more than 200 rural special technique associations and over 110 popular science education bases. Changzhou Association for Science and Technology has become a mass organization, which goes beyond regions, jurisdictions and ownership systems, with comprehensive disciplines and assembled talents.
